They say the best place to start is at the beginning, so I guess that is just what I will do. Although, to be 100% honest I am not exactly sure how I, a girl who use to forge notes from home to get out of running the mile in junior high, came to the conclusion it was a good idea to run a half marathon, but apparently I did. So here I am about 211 days out working on my training plan and trying to decide what I am going to wear. Yes, I know priorities priorities.
Since the clothing can wait, I guess the most important thing to do is to come up with a training program. After hearing it recommended many times I decided to check Marathoning for Mortals out at the library. Boy am I glad I did. It is very informative and is filled with motivation and encouragement. I am what they refer to as "adult on-set athlete", although I yet to consider myself an athlete; maybe a wanna be athlete, but definitely not an athlete. Either way they have program that I feel is just right for me, so I have decided to do the run/walk half marathon training from the book. I am currently on week two and so far so good. I know the training is going to get harder so right now I am trying to prepare myself mentally for what lies ahead.
